CAF World Cup qualifying predictions September 8: the path remains flawless

by Martin

The 2026 World Cup qualifiers organized by CAF, the governing body of African football, are now coming to an end. Starting with the next edition, nine teams will take part in the World Cup: the winners of the nine groups will participate in the World Cup, while the four best runners-up will play in playoffs to determine CAF’s representative in the intercontinental playoffs.
In Group E, Morocco, the big surprise of the 2022 World Cup—the Atlas Lions even reached the semifinals—already has its ticket in the bag. The North African team has won all six of its games and still has a perfect record. Despite already having secured qualification, Walid Regragui’s men are unlikely to slip up against Zambia, who are still in contention for a place in the playoffs and were already beaten 3-1 by Morocco in the first leg. Once again, the total number of goals should be at least three. In Group H, however, the battle for the playoffs is quite fierce: Tunisia, despite still chasing mathematical qualification – first place is practically assured – risks something in Equatorial Guinea against a team that can aspire to second place, being only two points behind Namibia.

In Group H, the battle for top spot is between Ghana, in first place with 16 points, and the Comoros Islands, with 15 points but one game in hand. Behind them, however, Madagascar and Mali are also waiting menacingly. The Black Stars, therefore, will be involved in a very delicate match against the Malian team: they must get at least a draw to avoid being overtaken at the top: in our opinion, they will succeed.
