Verona v Fiorentina is a Serie A Week 24 match played on Monday at 18:30: odds, predictions, TV and streaming
In one of the postponed matches of the 24th day of Serie A, which is spread over four days and will end only tomorrow, Verona and Fiorentina will fight for important points in a race for salvation that has been completely reopened thanks to the turnaround of the Scaligeri, who after the break for the World Cup have changed gear, sucking in several teams that last autumn slept soundly.
And in this small group, surprisingly, we also find the Viola who, apart from the excellent performance they are having in the cups, in the league they barely won a game in 2023, against Sassuolo. In Serie A, inexplicably, it is an entirely different Fiorentina: Vincenzo Italiano’s team continues to come to terms with their poor goal-scoring ability despite playing a proactive, possession-based game. In the last three days they have taken just one point against Bologna, Juventus and Empoli, and after yesterday’s results they find themselves in fifteenth place, eight points ahead of Verona. At the beginning of the season it seemed utopian to imagine that in February the Tuscans would be closer to the relegation zone than to Europe, but at the moment the classification says this. And it is normal that an eventual defeat against the Gialloblù would throw Biraghi and his team-mates into panic.
Verona unbeaten at home in 2023
In the Conference League, however, Fiorentina have just had the satisfaction of eliminating Braga, the third-ranked team in the Portuguese league, beating them by a total of seven goals in the first leg and return, and qualifying for the round of 16, where they will meet Turkey’s Sivasspor.
The Viola are also in the running for the Coppa Italia, where in April they will play for access to the final at the Stadio Olimpico against Cremonese: there are therefore alternative routes to reach another European qualification, but at the moment the first objective must be to improve a classification that is beginning to worry. It will not be easy, however, to get the better of a Verona side on the rise, which has only lost at the San Siro against Inter and at the Stadio Olimpico against Roma since January. And which in front of its own public is still undefeated in the new year. Yesterday Spezia did not go far, and with a success Marco Zaffaroni’s line-up would join the Ligurians in fourth-last place, taking themselves out of the red zone for the first time in months.
Verona v Fiorentina: latest line-up news
In Zaffaroni’s three-man defence, Hien, Magnani and one of Coppola and Dawidowicz should find a place: Ceccherini, the former player, will be absent. Now recovered, Faraoni is pushing for a starting place, but it is unlikely that the former Inter and Udinese player will start. In the middle there will be space for Duda and Tameze, with Scotland’s Doig taking charge of the right flank. No doubts in attack, where Ngonge and Lazovic will support Gaich, enlisted in January to replace the injured Djuric, who will not return before the end of March.
As usual, a massive dose of turnover is expected for Italiano, especially after the conference match with Braga. Up front Cabral – the Brazilian is starting to score with some continuity – will be preferred to Jovic. Gonzalez and Saponara should also play with him in the trident. Amrabat is back, while the former Barak will compete for a shirt with Mandragora in midfield. On the right Terzic will challenge Biraghi.
The prediction
While not often finding the way to a goal, Verona have now acquired a certain solidity and this is demonstrated by the fact that in the two defeats against Inter and Roma they only lost by the narrowest of margins. The Scaligeri are back to believing in salvation and could put in trouble a Fiorentina side that is not very prolific in the championship and that will probably suffer from the fatigue of the double commitment. It will be a very balanced match, with both teams likely to score on at least one occasion.
