Torino v Verona, Serie A: streaming, odds, predictions

by Martin

Torino-Verona is a Serie A Week 16 match to be played on Wednesday at 14:30: odds, predictions, TV and streaming.

Europa is just a dream for now, but later who knows. It will certainly be a second half of the season to discover for Ivan Juric’s Torino, who will be anxious to know if they are really capable of fighting for a more ambitious goal than a quiet salvation, as the granata have shown in the first four months of the championship.

Looking at the Serie A standings after fifteen matches, the presence of Toro in ninth position stands out, behind those teams who are fighting for a European placement. It was not to be taken for granted that Rodriguez and his teammates would find themselves so high, reaching – and exceeding – 20 points when we are not even at the halfway mark. Especially after the summer turmoil involving the Croatian coach and sporting director Vagnati, which had led to fears of the worst. Torino scores very little – among the top ten they are the team that has scored the fewest goals, barely 16 – but they are a solid team, complicated for anyone to face. Even the big teams know something about it: AC Milan and Roma, who only managed a draw against the granata between October and November: the Rossoneri fell 2-1 at the Olimpico, while the Giallorossi avoided defeat (1-1) thanks to a penalty converted by Matic in the dying stages.

Verona’s record-breaking losing streak

Toro had finished 2022 well, with three wins in their last five matches, and also did well in the four friendlies they took part in over the last 50 days, drawing with Almeria and Cremonese and beating Espanyol and Monza.

In the first match of 2023 at the Olimpico comes what is by far the worst team in Serie A, Verona, last in the standings with five points. During the break, the Scaligeri, fresh from ten defeats in a row – a record-breaking streak for the club from Veneto – have also changed technical guidance. Or rather, they have placed former Chievo and Cosenza player Marco Zaffaroni alongside Salvatore Bocchetti, who lacks a Uefa licence. The Gialloblù have the worst defence in the league, and after yet another home defeat against Spezia (1-2), they are now 8 points behind the Ligurians, who are second to last.

Torino-Verona: latest line-up news

Usual problems in attack for Juric, who will have only Sanabria available. Pellegri, who is struggling with a thigh problem, will not be available until the end of January. Miranchuk and one of Radonjic or Vlasic will play behind the Paraguayan national, both of whom are back from the World Cup with Serbia and Croatia. Some defections also on the flanks, where Singo and Aina will also be missing. In defence, on the other hand, former Ajax player Schuurs will take his place between Djidji and Rodriguez.

It’s raining cats and dogs at Verona: Ilic, Veloso and Lasagna are in doubt for the trip to Turin, but they should be on the bench. In the four-man midfield line there will be space for outside players Depaoli and Doig and centre-backs Tameze and Hongla. Zaffaroni and Bocchetti are considering moving Lazovic into the three-quarter behind Henry.

The Prediction

Torino’s attack has scored in spurts so far, but it could break through against the league’s most perforated rearguard: at least two goals are likely to be scored by the Granata side, who should win the three points without any major problems.

The probable line-up of Torino v Verona

  • TORINO (3-4-2-1): Milinkovic-Savic; Djidji, Schuurs, Rodriguez; Lazaro, Lukic, Ricci, Vojvoda; Radonjic, Miranchuk; Sanabria.
  • VERONA (3-4-2-1): Montipò; Dawidowicz, Gunter, Ceccherini; Depaoli, Tameze, Hongla, Doig; Verdi, Lazovic; Henry.
