TERNANA – PERUGIA | Sunday 4:15 PM
The sixth day of Serie B concludes with the Umbrian derby between Ternana and Perugia, a match as usual eagerly awaited by both fans, rivals practically since forever. It will, however, be a minor challenge, the one at the ‘Liberati’: in fact, it cannot be said that the red and green and red-and-whites have made a great start to this championship, given that they currently have respectively 7 and 4 points – a meagre haul after six rounds – and are stationed in the right-hand side of the standings. That is why winning this derby could mean so much: regaining the right momentum and starting to climb the slope towards areas more in line with the objectives that, at the start of the season, the two ambitious clubs set themselves.
This will be the 96th time that Ternana and Perugia will cross paths. The figure for victories is curious: they have won thirty each. The team coached by Cristiano Lucarelli is slightly better placed than the Grifoni: Donnarumma and his team-mates’ performance is inconsistent, but last week they achieved their second victory of the season, beating the more highly-rated Parma 2-3 at home. Positive signs also came from Fabrizio Castori’s men, who, after three defeats and a draw, recorded their first success on Saturday, beating Ascoli 1-0.
Ternana-Perugia: latest line-up news
The Rossoverde coach still has to do without a few players: Pettinari, Falletti and Bogdan will certainly not be in the match. Consequently, Lucarelli can count again on Partipilo and Favilli, two fundamental players both absent against Parma. Both could start from the bench. Important absences also in Perugia: Castori will not have Lisi, Matos and above all Curado. Angella and Strizzolo will make it instead.
The prediction
Lucarelli is gradually recovering from his injuries, and his Ternana side showed against Parma that they can once again play the role of a loose cannon, as they did last season when they came close to making the playoffs. In any case, it is still a derby, and as such there is no clear favourite, although in our opinion the Rossoverdi start slightly ahead, not only because they play at home. There should be no shortage of goals: both are likely to score at least one on each side.
