Szczesny and that 100 euro bet with Messi lost in seconds: the Poland goalkeeper, however, is adamant: “I won’t pay”
In the end everyone was happy. Both Messi, who despite missing a penalty kick in the first half, made it through the round; and Szczesny, who parried that shot from the eleven metres and despite the defeat against Argentina, with his Poland, took qualification for the round of 16 of the World Cup in Qatar. All’s well that ends well we would say, but that penalty kick conceded to the Seleccion in the first half still screams revenge.
Quite generous, not to say non-existent. But the Dutch referee Makkelie, after Var screened the outgoing goalkeeper’s touch on the Pulce’s face, made a decision no one expected. Justice, however, was done with the Juventus goalkeeper rejecting the Psg player’s finish, saving his second penalty in a row in Qatar. And at the end, with a smile on his face, Szczesny explained a back story.
Szczesny reveals bet with Messi
He was so sure it wasn’t a penalty Szczesny decided to bet with Messi. And to the microphones of TV 2 Sport he revealed a backstory: “We spoke before the penalty and I told him that I had bet 100 euros that he wouldn’t give it,” smiled Szczesny. But then he also added something else.
“I lost a bet against Messi. I don’t know if betting is allowed at the World Cup, maybe they will penalise me. Anyway I won’t pay him he has enough money already’. And on this last sentence we don’t think there can be any doubt. We could easily call the Juventus goalkeeper ‘the mouth of truth’ as we say for children. Messi has enough money, it’s true.
