Strasbourg-PSG is a match from the 37th day of Ligue 1 and is played on Saturday at 21:00: statistics, likely formations, predictions
Psg have protected themselves from further unpleasantness in the last three days by winning three games in a row against two teams already relegated (Troyes and Ajaccio) and one struggling to stay in the top flight, Auxerre.
Nine points that kept the gap to second place, occupied by Lens, unchanged. And which, in the event of a win or a draw against a now-saved Strasbourg, would allow them to celebrate their second consecutive title with a day to spare. It would be the 11th triumph in the history of the Parisian club. The trip to Alsace should not hold any major surprises: the team led by Frederic Antonetti with 180 minutes to go have a six-point lead over fourth-last-placed Nantes. But even if they were to lose the next two matches against Psg and Lorient, they would still be unreachable thanks to the better goal difference against the canaries, who are now one and a half feet away in the lower division. A season put back on its feet thanks to the former Metz coach, who sat on the Alsatian club’s bench last February, with the team sailing in bad waters. The last part of the championship was decisive: since mid-April, Strasbourg have only lost to Lyon, with four wins and a draw.
PSG are decimated
Winning the national title, however, did not ‘save’ PSG’s year, which was disappointing especially in Europe. The Champions League adventure of Mbappé and his team-mates this year stopped in the round of 16 against a Bayern Munich side that appeared more enterprising.
Christophe Galtier’s bench is creaking more and more despite the imminent party, and the names of the eventual replacement have been bandied about for some time now, from Zidane to Conte. Changes in the squad are also expected: the one who will leave is certainly Leo Messi, among the most contested by the fans. Neymar, who missed practically the entire second half of the season due to injury, is also expected to leave. Galtier has only called up 18 players for the Strasbourg game: Hakimi, Ekitike, Fabian Ruiz, Marquinhos and Nuno Mendes are missing.
The Prediction
In spite of heavy absences, Psg are likely to close the books on this round against a rescued Strasbourg. The total will be at least three goals, and it is not out of the question that the Alsatians will score at least one.
