Serie C, five challenges complete the picture of the first round of the national stage of the promotion playoffs: news and predictions.
The C Series playoffs are coming into full swing. With the return matches scheduled today, the first round of the national phase ends. From next, the last before the Final Four, the three teams that finished second in their respective rounds, namely Pordenone, Cesena and Crotone, will also be involved.
The rules stipulate that in case of a tie even after the return match, those teams with a better goal difference in the two matches will have access to the second round. In case of a further tie, the top seeded team will have access to the second round of the national play-off phase: no overtime. Delio Rossi’s Foggia, bludgeoned 4-1 by Audace Cerignola in the derby, has one foot and a half out by now: Michele Pazienza’s Storks literally dominated the first leg – their third win of the season against their cousins – and now they can afford to lose even by two goals at the “Zaccheria.” Three are needed instead for Foggia to come back and advance to the next round. A very complicated feat. but the Rossoneri this time should avoid defeat in another match of at least one goal on each side.
Serie C: Pescara and Vicenza
risk.
A draw was enough for Zdenek Zeman’s Pescara to eliminate Virtus Verona after a 2-2 draw in the first leg. Certainly not a performance to remember that of the Abruzzesi in Veneto, who reeled off an excellent Virtus thanks to a goal by Dalle Monache in the final.
It is likely to be another very prolific match, as is often the case when the Bohemian coach’s teams are involved: Pescara should avoid defeat. Match with at least one goal on each side the one between Vicenza and Pro Sesto: the Lombardi in the first leg came out on top 2-1 against the winners of the Italian Cup of Serie C, now forced to win in front of their own public: the “biancorossi,” despite a troubled season full of twists and turns, will manage to beat Pro this time. The total goals will most likely be at least two, but we expect a more eventful second half. Difficult qualification for Ancona, which four days ago managed to draw (2-2) a game that seemed to be lost: Lecco appeared frankly superior and starts as favorites. One step away from the feat finally Gubbio, coached by an “old fox” like Piero Braglia. The Umbrians in the first leg beat the better-ranked Entella 2-0 and should manage to avoid defeat again in a match where the total goals will be less than four.
