Revolution in Serie A and Serie C: Casini and Ghirelli dictate the guidelines for the immediate future. What could happen

A real revolution could be seen in the immediate future. In this case, especially with regard to the Serie C league, which is grappling with what are common problems for all Italians: the high bills, first and foremost, with clubs that do not seem to be able to pay. The increases have been significant for sports facilities, and so a solution is being sought. But let’s try to go in order and start from what Lorenzo Casini, president of the Serie A League, said at the microphones of Rai Radio 1.

The main problem, in this case, is the multiple commitments that the teams have and that jeopardise the physical condition of the athletes. There has been talk for some time of a possible return to 18 teams in Serie A, but this has never happened until now. “Several coaches have pointed this out to me, there are players who cannot play, tired from the succession of matches. The issue of too many matches exists. Is the solution to reduce the teams? On this the League has different opinions, we are addressing the issue together with Serie B and Lega Pro. We will talk about it again in November”.

Rivoluzione Serie A and Serie C, Ghirelli’s words

Returning to Ghirelli instead – today however closes the day of the C series with the postponement between Alessandria and Reggiana – the president of the Italian third league spoke yesterday, while attending Potenza-Foggia. One solution, according to Ghirelli, could be to play Serie C matches in the morning in the middle of winter, also abolishing the evening postponements and playing in the hottest hours of the day. There would obviously be savings on lighting and heating. ‘This hypothesis,’ Ghirelli said, ‘will be discussed at the next league council meeting. “It is necessary to intervene immediately and give the clubs the possibility to take advantage of all the interventions that are planned or that will be launched”: this, finally, is the plea for help.
