Saturday, Aug. 5 predictions: Coppa Italia, Zweite Liga, friendly matches

by Martin

Saturday, August 5 predictions: the Coppa Italia kicks off with Catanzaro-Foggia, Zweite Liga, Championship, Scottish Premier and other leagues are also on the field.

The 2023/2024 Coppa Italia kicks off this Saturday with the first round match facing Catanzaro and Foggia. The Giallorossi, newly promoted to Serie B after dominating far and wide last year’s Serie C championship, will not be able to play in their stadium: given the current work in progress at the “Ceravolo” the challenge will be played behind closed doors at the “Razza” in Vibo Valentia.

Foggia, which stopped in the playoffs, started late in the athletic preparation for this season, under the guidance of new coach Mirko Cudini. Given the different potential between the two roses and the gap even in physical fitness, Catanzaro should easily get through the round.

Other match predictions

There are also some fancy friendlies on this Saturday before the start of some of the major European leagues. Manchester United should get to grips with Lens, which has disposed of the two main protagonists of last season’s great season: captain Seko Fofana and striker Openda.

Newcastle qualifying for the Champions League should overcome Fiorentina, which is changing several pawns in this soccer market session. Victory is also likely for Bayer Leverkusen, strengthened by Grimaldo, Xhaka, and Boniface, against West Ham, which after its Conference League triumph has been stuck in the market.

For goal-hunters, watch out in Germany for St Pauli-Fortuna Dusseldorf and Jahn Regensburg-Unterhaching, and in Scotland for Celtic-Ross County. Promising entertainment in the Arab Club Champions Cup is the challenge between the Al Ittihad of Fabinho, Kanté and Benzema and the Al Hilal of Koulibaly, Milinkovic Savic, Ruben Neves and Malcom.
