Saturday 1 July predictions: European U21 Championship, Brasileirao, MLS

by Mike

Saturday, July 1 predictions: the quarter-finals of the European U21 Championships begin, Brasileirao, MLS and other tournaments are also on the line

The knockout phase of the European Under-21 Championship 2023 opens with an unexpected quarter-final, which only the most daring could have predicted on the eve of the continental event. Competing for a place in the semi-finals are the tournament’s two great revelations, hosts Georgia and Israel: whoever goes through will face the winner between England and reigning runners-up Portugal.

Both made it to the quarters against all odds, they should make for a very balanced encounter. If there is one selection that has done better, however, it is Georgia, who will also be able to count on the home factor, a not inconsiderable advantage.

Other match predictions

Spain-Switzerland is the quarter-final that should have featured Paolo Nicolato’s Italy, who threw away the qualification in a reckless manner by losing on the final day to Norway. For Switzerland, however, the bonuses seem to be over: they are unlikely to make it past this hurdle.

This Saturday the Brasileirao is also on the pitch, and at night the MLS.
