Sampdoria v Roma, Serie A: streaming, odds, predictions

Sampdoria v Roma is a Serie A Week 10 match played on Monday at 18:30: odds, predictions, TV and streaming

Dejan Stankovic’s adventure on the Sampdoria bench began with a draw in the away match in Bologna. Too little to allow the blucerchiati to leave the last place in the standings, but the most important thing was to return to score points to put an end to the streak of four consecutive defeats that have forced the club to exonerate Marco Giampaolo. Sabiri and his team-mates reacted well in Emilia, and were able to straighten out in the second half – with Djuricic scoring – a game that had seen them go into a first-half deficit. The impact of the former Red Star coach, best known for the ‘fighting’ character he showed on the pitch even as a player, was all in all positive. To pull themselves out of trouble they now need to find the three points, a joy never tasted this year by Sampdoria, the only team still without victories together with the newly promoted Cremonese.

Stankovic will make his debut at the Marassi in front of one of his ‘masters’, that José Mourinho who took him to the roof of Europe during the Inter Triplete back in 2010. But for the Serbian, basking in memories is not allowed. And it is the same for the Portuguese, who is aiming to build on his victories against Inter and Lecce in the league to move closer to fourth place again. Roma’s success with the Salentini was bittersweet: Dybala’s injury – he may only see the field again in 2023 – while kicking the decisive penalty is a bad loss. If the Giallorossi are travelling fast in Serie A, the same cannot be said of the Europa League: the draw in Sevilla against Betis (1-1) forces them to win their last two games to avoid finding themselves back in the Conference League.

Sampdoria v Roma: latest line-up news

Pellegrini

Pellegrini

Stankovic will in all likelihood confirm the 4-2-3-1 played last Saturday at the “Dall’Ara” in Bologna: everyone available except the injured Murillo (and the long-suffering Winks and De Luca) who will be replaced by Ferrari in the centre of defence. In the midfield, Vieira appears to be slightly favoured over ex-midfielder Villar, while Gabbiadini, Djuricic and Sabiri will play behind Caputo.

Roma, on the other hand, have many absentees, and in addition to Dybala they have to do without Wijnaldum, Celik and Kumbulla. The Argentine could recover by mid-November but is most likely to return after the Qatari World Cup. Behind Abraham, in attack, it will be up to Zaniolo and Pellegrini, the latter still looking for his first league goal. News on the flanks: the recovered Karsdorp should be back, while on the left it’s a duel between Zalewski and Spinazzola, with the former Juventus player in the lead.

The Prediction

In Genoa Roma will likely find a determined and proud Sampdoria, who have regained a modicum of enthusiasm after the change in the bench and the point won in Bologna. A week ago we saw a more shrewd team in the non-possession phase, although in front of the quality of the Giallorossi, the usual defensive limitations could become apparent again. A victory for Mourinho’s men is still very probable, but there is a good chance that the Blucerchiati will also find the way of the goal, against a Roma side that has failed to keep its goal unbroken for five games.

The likely Sampdoria v Roma line-up

  • SAMPDORIA (4-2-3-1): Audero; Bereszynski, Ferrari, Colley, Augello; Rincon, Vieira; Gabbiadini, Djuricic, Sabiri; Caputo.
  • ROMA (3-4-2-1): Rui Patricio; Mancini, Smalling, Ibanez; Karsdorp, Matic, Cristante, Spinazzola; Zaniolo, Pellegrini; Abraham.
