Romania-Andorra is a match on the eighth day of Group I of Euro 2024 qualifiers and is played on Sunday at 8:45 p.m.: predictions.
Romania squandered a big chance last Thursday at home to Belarus: on the neutral pitch in Budapest, Tricolorii did not go beyond a disappointing 0-0, despite coming up with twice as many chances as their opponents.
Edward Iordanescu’s selection, in the event of a win, could momentarily rise to the top of the Group I standings, as the match between leading Switzerland and Israel was postponed until November due to the tragic events in the Middle Eastern country these days. With the Swiss remaining heavy favorites for first place, it is the Israelis who are the main threat to Stanciu and his teammates. Israel, in fact, has only two points less than Romania, which, however, has played one more game. While waiting to see if it will be possible to make up for the postponed matches as early as November – that, at least, is what we all hope – the Tricolorii must compulsorily beat the tail-end Andorra and then focus on the two crucial challenges with Israel and Switzerland, scheduled in a month’s time. Iordanescu hopes to have no regrets at the end of the games, with those two points lost to Belarus likely to prove decisive.
In this group, meanwhile, Romania is the only unbeaten side along with Switzerland: three wins and four draws for a side that has not qualified for a European Championship final since the 2016 edition, the one organized by France.
It would be resounding not to take the three points even with Andorra, last with 2 points. The Pyrenees, however, can recriminate themselves very little: it was not a foregone conclusion that they managed to avoid defeat twice (Kosovo and Belarus), but more importantly, to collect “only” 13 goals, a good number when compared to other selections of the same level such as San Marino, Liechtenstein and Gibraltar.
The Prediction
Romania’s so far anemic attack – 9 goals in 7 games – should unlock against Andorra’s selection, the least competitive in this group. In the first leg Iordanescu’s men scored only two goals, this time it is safe to expect at least three.
