Roma-Udinese is a match of the 30th day of Serie A and is played on Sunday at 8:45 pm: odds, predictions, TV and streaming.
Forget for a few days the defeat in the first leg of the Europa League quarterfinals with Feyenoord and get back to focusing on the league. It will not be easy for Roma, which has shown this year that it suffers beyond measure from the double midweek commitment.
In Rotterdam, the Giallorossi lost 1-0 and now they are aware that they will need to pull off another feat – along the lines of the one with Salzburg – to win back the Dutch. First, however, there is the need to consolidate third place, which José Mourinho’s team managed to regain thanks to two consecutive victories against Sampdoria and Torino and by taking advantage of the Milanese side’s continuous missteps. With Udinese, therefore, Roma has a golden opportunity to pull away from AC Milan, which was stopped on a draw by Bologna in Saturday afternoon’s advance match. However, the Portuguese coach will not be able to dispose of Paulo Dybala, who got injured in the cup and will have to skip the challenge with the Friulani. Quite a problem since the former Juventus man had scored against both the Blucerchiati and the Granata, on both occasions from the penalty spot. Mourinho will focus as usual on the defense, which in 2023 remained unbeaten in eight league matches, all won by the Capitolini.
The Olimpico is a taboo for the Friulians
The return match with Feyenoord is on the horizon but Roma cannot afford to underestimate the tricky match with Udinese, who overwhelmed the Giallorossi 4-0 in the first leg.
Andrea Sottil’s team is not in a state of grace like it was last September, but compared to a few months ago, it is a team on a slight upswing. Last Saturday it drew 2-2 with Monza, scoring the equalizing goal in full recovery thanks to a penalty converted by Beto. A goal that allowed the Friulians to avoid their second defeat in a row after the one with Bologna. In any case, before the collapse in the capital of Emilia had come two consecutive victories, one of them against AC Milan, swept 3-1 at the Dacia Arena. Udinese proved that they are not capable of aspiring to Europe, as they had led to believe at the beginning of the tournament, but they can try to close in on the left side of the standings. The one at the Olimpico, however, is not an away match that evokes good memories: in fact, Roma has won eight of the last nine home matches with the Bianconeri.
Roma-Udinese: the latest lineup news
Mourinho, as mentioned above, will have to do without Dybala. But in addition to the Argentine, Abraham, struggling with a right shoulder problem, should not be in the match either. It will therefore be Belotti’s turn again to lead the Giallorossi attack: he will be supported by Pellegrini, seeking redemption after the missed penalty against Feyenoord, and El Shaarawy. In defense Llorente will back up Ibanez, duel on the right Celik-Zalewski.
Sottil will deploy Udinese with the usual 3-5-1-1, with Pereyra – back from disqualification – behind the only forward Beto. From the bench Success and Thauvin. Finally, Udogie and Ehizibue will act on the outsides, and in the middle Lovric should emerge over Arslan.
The Prediction
European commitment looms and a re-staffed Roma could face not a few difficulties against a Udinese that although not shining is always a tough opponent. Let’s hypothesize another narrow success by the Giallorossi, who, as often happens in home matches, will once again manage to keep their goal unbroken.
The probable lineups of Roma v Udinese
