Rennes-PSG is a match of the eighth day of Ligue 1 and is played on Sunday at 8:45 pm: statistics, probable formations, predictions.
It has been almost two months since the start of the season and Luis Enrique’s Psg’s record cannot be considered positive.
In the league, the Parisians are momentarily fifth, already -5 behind Monaco, which took the field twenty-four hours earlier and played one more game. But Mbappé and co. are not first in the Champions League group either, bypassed last Wednesday by Newcastle after an ugly defeat at St. James’ Park that is likely to leave its mark. A 4-1 without any possibility of appeal, which showed all the fragilities of a team still without head or tail. The Spanish coach wanted to take all the blame at the end of the match, however, partially saving the performance of his men “at least until the last thirty meters.” It is not enough, however, for him to avoid ending up in the dock: Psg must start running again and missteps like the one in Newcastle but also like the one a week ago in Clermont, in which the reigning French champions did not go beyond a disappointing 0-0.
A good test, in this sense, is the challenge with Bruno Genesio’s ambitious Rennes at Roazhon Park, also coming off an international defeat.
The Rossoneri are participating in the Europa League and on Thursday they narrowly lost the direct clash for first place in the group to Villarreal, who at the Estadio de la Ceramica got the better of them 1-0 thanks to a goal by Norwegian Sorloth. For Rennes it was the first defeat of the season after a long string of positive results, mostly draws. The Bretons are sixth in the standings, just one point behind Psg, and along with Nice the only ones still unbeaten. Genesio rejoins striker Kalimuendo, while on the other side Luis Enrique has to give up Asensio, Nuno Mendes and Kimpembe.
The Prediction
For Psg comes another complicated away trip and it is evidenced by the fact that the club from the French capital has failed to conquer Roazhon Park since as far back as 2018. Luis Enrique’s team will react after the thud in Newcastle but it probably won’t be enough to conquer the Rossoneri’s fortress: a draw cannot be ruled out.
