The Soccer Champions Tour ‘menu’ tonight features a juicy clash between Real Madrid and Manchester United, among the most fascinating classics of international football.
Carlo Ancelotti’s Blancos, who at the end of next season will begin an intriguing adventure as Brazil coach, are fresh from another luxury friendly with AC Milan, played on Sunday night in Pasadena, California, which ended in a pyrotechnic 3-2 victory in favour of the Madrid men. Manchester United have already played four friendlies: in Europe the Red Devils got the better of Leeds (2-0) and Lyon (1-0), while in the United States they have so far faced Arsenal, beaten 2-0, and Wrexham.

Against the latter, however, almost exclusively Under-23 players took to the field, conceding the first defeat (1-3) of their pre-season. The last precedent between Real and United dates back to 2018, when the two clubs faced each other in a friendly in the USA. On that occasion it was the English side that came out on top, winning 2-1 in Miami. To trace the last official confrontation we have to go all the way back to 2013, in the Champions League. Ancelotti is expected to field Bellingham again in the role of trequartista, with Joselu – arrived from Espanyol – and Vinicius as the attacking pair. Erik ten Hag will also give space to new signings Onana and Mount.
The prediction
Between the two who have shone the brightest in these friendlies is undoubtedly Manchester United, intent on getting off on the right foot. The Red Devils have done particularly well in their own half, keeping their goals unbroken against Leeds, Lyon and Arsenal. They are unlikely to do so against Real Madrid, in a match that should provide entertainment.
