POLAND – CHILE | Wednesday 6pm
Unlike other selections taking part in the upcoming World Cup next week, Poland have not yet reached Qatar. Czeslaw Michniewicz’s only test match before the expected debut with Mexico – immediately a likely play-off for the second place, since the first place in Group C is ‘booked’ by Argentina – the national team of Czeslaw Michniewicz will play at home, in Warsaw, against another South American representative, Chile. La Roja resoundingly missed out on qualifying for the final stage and is one of the ‘unjustified absentees’ on a par with Roberto Mancini’s Italy. The coach has called up several players from Italy’s Serie A – there are no less than eleven – and is relying, as usual, on an extra-luxury attack formed by Milik and Lewandowski.
They qualified through the play-offs – their victory in the final against Sweden was decisive – and limited the damage in the last Nations League, in which they nevertheless managed to beat Wales twice, avoiding relegation to the B League. In contrast, Sanchez and his teammates had a disastrous qualifying campaign in the South American qualifying round, where Chile finished seventh. A bad blow for the national team now led by Argentine Eduardo Berizzo, which had already been left behind four years ago. The new technical commissioner has the task of trying to start a new cycle while continuing to involve the various senators, including former Inter striker Medel and Vidal.
The Prediction
The hosts’ greater motivation – apart from the presence of a relentless scorer like Lewandowski on the pitch – should make the difference in a friendly in which Chile are also likely to find their way to goal.
Poland-Chile’s likely line-up
- POLAND (3-5-2): Szczesny; Bereszynski, Bednarek, Glik; Cash, Krychowiak, Zielinski, Zurkowski, Zalewski; Piatek, Milik.
- CHILE (3-5-2): Bravo; Medel, Maripan, Sierralta; Mehssatou, Nunez, Pavez, Vidal, Suazo; Sanchez, Henriquez.
POSSIBLE RESULT: 2-1
