Poland-Moldova is a match on the eighth day of Euro 2024 qualifying Group E and is played Sunday at 8:45 p.m.: predictions.
Michal Probierz, appointed Poland’s technical commissioner in place of Fernando Santos – the former Portugal selector’s experience lasted only a few months – made his debut with a win.
The three points, after all, were practically obligatory in the away match against the modest Faroe Islands, beaten 2-0 last Thursday thanks to goals by Szymanski and Buksa, who were good at not letting the absence of top scorer Robert Lewandowski, excluded from the squad due to injury, be felt. Not a memorable performance by the Biało-czerwoni, still recovering from bloody defeats to Moldova and Albania that complicated the Polish selection’s path to Germany 2024. Zielinski and his teammates are now second again, one point above the Czech Republic — which has since foundered in Albania — and would be qualified as of today. But the road to the European Championship remains impassable and winding, as the Czechs have played one game less and could make the breakthrough if they win them all. In any case, Poland remains masters of its own destiny. After the challenge with Moldova, another must-win at all costs, they will play it all in November in the direct clash with the Czech Republic.
Poland can do no wrong
The fact, however, that Serghei Clescenco’s Moldovans are still in the running for qualification is not good news. The dream of participating in the historic first European Championship is still alive.
Moldavia, thanks to the eight points scraped together so far, has as good a chance as the top-ranked Czech Republic to snatch a pass to the international review to be organized by Germany next summer. The chances of reaching the goal, in any case, remain low, but it would be wrong to underestimate a selection that so far has lost only one game in five (against Albania, ed.). And which has already been able to trip Poland itself, last June resoundingly remounted after finishing two goals down in the first half (3-2). Moldova on Thursday lost 3-1 to Sweden in a friendly, also finishing with 10 men due to Craciun’s expulsion.
The Prediction
Maybe it is still too early to say, but the change of technical leadership seems to have done Poland good, which after the Faroes should be able to beat Moldova as well. Unlikely, in fact, that the hosts will be able to pull off another feat like last June’s. Unlike what happened a few months ago, we do not expect a prolific match: the number of total goals will be less than four.
