Poland-Faroe Islands is a match valid for the fifth day of Group E of Euro 2024 qualifiers and is played Thursday at 8:45 p.m.: predictions.
Poland, along with the Czech Republic, is the big favorite to win Group E, which also includes Albania, Moldova and the Faroe Islands.
However, that of Lewandowski and his teammates, led by Fernando Santos – Portugal’s former technical commissioner – was a handicap start. In fact, the red and whites have already cashed in two defeats in their Euro 2024 qualifying campaign, which could cost them dearly: the first in the direct clash with the Czechs, who got the better of them 3-1 in March; the second, totally unexpected, came in the Moldovan away match last June, against a selection that was far from irresistible. After taking a two-goal lead through Lewandowski and Milik in the first half, the Poles inexplicably collapsed in the second half and were reeled in (3-2) by Clescenco’s men. The standings now see Poland in second-to-last place with 3 points, the result of their success – the only one so far – at home with Albania. The race will have to be on the Albanians, who have 6 points and will simultaneously be engaged at home with the Czech Republic.
To be won at all costs, therefore, the match with the least competitive national team in the group, the Faroe Islands, which has barely scraped together a point in the first three days.
Last place, however, does not erase the small progress being made by this small selection, capable of gaining promotion from League D to League C of the Nations League and taking the scalp of Turkey, beaten 2-1 in Torshavn a year ago. Coached by Sweden’s Hakan Ericson, the Faroese have in clear-cut fashion the last two games with Czech Republic and Albania, conceding 6 goals in total, while they had drawn with Moldova on their debut.
The Prediction
Poland obliged to win after the resounding misstep with Moldova, which forces Fernando Santos’ men to chase Albania – currently second behind the Czechs – whom they will visit in the coming week. Victory should come without a problem against the lowly Faroe Islands, beaten soundly on the last two days. The Poles are likely to score two to four goals.
