Monza-Napoli, Serie A: streaming, likely lineups, predictions

by Thorsten

Monza-Napoli is a match of the thirty-fifth day of Serie A and is played on Sunday at 15:00: lineups, predictions, TV and streaming.

Napoli has already stitched the Scudetto on its chest a while ago, and in the shadow of Vesuvius, amid the great celebration of winning the tricolor – which is likely to continue until the last day of the championship – they are already starting to think about the future. The Azzurri, however, are keen to end the season on a high note, perhaps trying to surpass that points record (91) of Maurizio Sarri’s Napoli (2017-18 year), which finished second behind Juventus.

To do so, they will need to win at least three of their last four games, in which Luciano Spalletti’s men will face Monza, Inter, Bologna and Sampdoria. Another motivation that could prevent the partenopei from pulling the plug is the top scorer title of Victor Osimhen, who now in the special ranking now feels the breath on the neck of Inter player Lautaro Martinez (23 goals the Nigerian, 19 the Argentine). It was the former Lille man himself who bent Fiorentina a week ago, showing that he still has plenty of hunger: one of his penalties brought down the Viola (1-0) on the day when the “Maradona” was able to embrace his champions. For Napoli it was a return to success after two draws with Salernitana and Udinese. Since April, the only defeats for Di Lorenzo and his teammates have been with AC Milan between the league and the Champions League, but overall the scoring average has dropped significantly: it has been more than a month since the Azzurri last scored more than one goal in the same match (Lecce-Napoli).

Monza dreams of eighth place

Spalletti and his team this weekend will visit Monza, who have been safe for several weeks now and are fighting for eighth place along with Fiorentina, Torino, Bologna and Udinese.

The Brianzoli reached the goal that ownership had set last summer well in advance, and Raffaele Palladino can be satisfied with what his team managed to combine in its first appearance in the top flight. The merits are to be attributed mainly to the rookie coach, who took over from Stroppa in September and impressed the decisive turnaround after a less than exciting start. The Biancorossi can thus fulfill the wish of CEO Galliani, who dreamed of seeing Monza among the top 10 in the Serie A standings. Palladino’s men meanwhile are coming off a 1-1 draw in Turin and have not lost in 6 games (three wins and three draws).

Monza-Napoli: the latest news on the lineups

In Monza, Colpani is injured: the midfielder is expected to miss the challenge with Napoli. Also in doubt is Pablo Marì, struggling with a hip contusion: in case the Spaniard doesn’t make it, Marlon is ready. Going in search of a starting jersey is the re-established Sensi, but right now in midfield Machin is favored.

On the other side, Spalletti could give minutes to those who have played little so far. On the right flank, Di Lorenzo could be rested, tailed by Bereszynski, but the various Juan Jesus, Elmas will also likely have space. Mario Rui and Lozano are absent.

The Prediction

A match that has very little meaning between Monza and Napoli, two teams that have (almost) nothing more to ask from their season. Both will be able to take the field without much pressure in an afternoon that promises goals: they will score at least one on each side in a match of more than two goals total.

The probable formations of Monza-Napoli

  • MONZA (3-4-1-2): Di Gregorio; Izzo, Pablo Marì, Caldirola; Ciurria, Machin, Rovella, Carlos Augusto; Pessina; Caprari, Mota.
  • NAPLES (4-3-3): Meret; Bereszynski, Rrahmani, Juan Jesus, Olivera; Zambo Anguissa, Lobotka, Zielinski; Elmas, Osimhen, Kvaratskhelia.

POSSIBLE RESULT: 1-2
