Monaco-Nantes, Ligue 1: odds, predictions

by Sabrina

Monaco-Nantes is a match of the ninth day of Ligue 1 and is played on Sunday at 17:05: statistics, likely formations, predictions.

Philippe Clement, Monaco coach, has his fingers crossed. Stops, usually, are almost never healthy for teams on a good run as the Monegasques were before Ligue 1, like all leagues, stopped for national team commitments. After a complicated start, probably conditioned by the disappointment of elimination in the Champions League preliminaries against Psv Eindhoven, the red-and-whites have regained their game and results. Since the away victory in the derby against Nice, Golovin and his teammates have not stopped since: the only defeat came in the Europa League, where they were surprised by Ferencvaros. The only defeat came in the Europa League, where they were beaten by Ferencvaros. The slip-up was immediately filed away with a convincing 0-3 win in Reims, where Monaco literally went wild in the second half, sending almost all of their offensive players into the goal. In addition to the talented Russian fantasist, former Liverpool player Minamino and Ben Yedder also scored. An assist instead for Embolo, bought in the summer from Borussia Monchengladbach.

Although far from the top, Monaco are fifth in the table, five points behind third place, occupied by the surprising Lorient. Slightly further back are Nantes, who come to the ‘Louis II’ with a haul of seven points. Antoine Kombouare’s team, holder of the French Cup, is evidently paying the fatigue of the double European commitment. The Europa League has been bittersweet so far for the Giallorossi, who, after beating Olympiacos 2-1, crashed 3-0 in Azerbaijan against Qarabag. In the league, however, their only success remains their one against Toulouse on 28 August.

The Prediction

The time seems to be ripe for Monaco’s first home victory: in the Principality, the Monegasques have only won on one occasion, while suffering three defeats. Against a limping Nantes, the three points should come in an entertaining match in which both sides are likely to score.

The likely line-up for Monaco v Nantes

  • MONACO (3-4-3): Nübel; Disasi, Badiashile, Sarr; Vanderson, Fofana, Camara, Caio Henrique; Diatta, Embolo, Golovin.
  • NANTES (3-4-3): Lafont; Castelletto, Girotto, Pallois; Appiah, Chirivella, Sissoko, Merlin; Blas, Mohamed, Guessand.

POSSIBLE RESULT: 2-1
