Monaco-Brest is a match of the 17th day of Ligue 1 and is played on Sunday at 15:00: statistics, likely formations, predictions

In the wake of good performances in the various international friendlies against Sevilla, Empoli, Fiorentina and Leeds, Monaco debuted with a victory in the first official match of this strange split season. The Monegasque team managed to get the better of an excellent Auxerre, who were only beaten five minutes from the end at the end of a pyrotechnic 2-3.

Decisive goal came from 17-year-old midfielder Ben Seghir, courageously thrown in by Philippe Clement at the start of the second half. Three points that were painful but at the same time of considerable specific weight for the Principality’s club, who can thus continue their comeback towards third place after a subdued start. In Burgundy-Franche-Comté, last Wednesday, came the third success in the last four matches. And the unbeaten run could have been longer if, before the break, Monaco had not lost the direct clash with Marseille by conceding the final goal 2-3 in the eighth minute of added time. The red and whites still have 30 points after sixteen matches and are only -3 behind Igor Tudor’s men, who are back in third place after taking advantage of Rennes’ misstep.

Clement and his men must now improve their home performance, which is nowhere near as good as their away performance: better than them away from home – six wins out of eight – only Psg have done. In the Principality comes Brest, fresh from a heavy defeat at home against Blanc’s Lyon, who did practically what they wanted in Brittany (2-4) while conceding two goals from Bruno Grougi’s team, now fourth-last in the table.

The Prediction

Brest had shown signs of recovery before the break but against Lyon they showed that they have not yet solved their problems in the non-possession phase. Monaco is a team that scores with a certain frequency, which was also seen against Auxerre, and they should be able to beat the Bretons easily, scoring two to four goals.

The likely line-up for Monaco-Brest

  • MONACO (3-5-2): Nübel; Disasi, Badiashile, Maripan; Aguilar, Camara, Fofana, Golovin, Ciao Henrique; Ben Yedder, Embolo.
  • BREST (4-3-3): Bizot; Fadiga, Chardonnet, Brassier, Duverne; Camara, Lees-Melou, Belkebla; Del Castillo, Mounié, Honorat.

POSSIBLE RESULT: 3-1
