Moldova-Poland, Euro 2024 qualifiers: TV, likely formations,

by Mike

Moldavia-Poland is a match on the fourth day of Group E of Euro 2024 qualifying and is played on Tuesday at 20:45: predictions.

Poland remain in the running for qualification to what would be their fifth consecutive European Championship despite an ugly defeat on matchday one against direct contenders the Czech Republic, now top of Group E.

The adventure of Fernando Santos, former Portugal coach and now selector of the Polish national team, did not start under the best auspices last March. But Lewandowski and his team-mates immediately bounced back from the drubbing in Prague and the following day they narrowly beat Albania (1-0) with a goal from Swiderski. Further confirmation came a few months later in the friendly against Germany, played last Friday in Warsaw. Poland managed to get the better of the Germans despite the almost total domination by the selection that will have the honour and burden of hosting next year’s continental championship. Santos’ men scored the decisive goal – scored by former Spezia defender Kiwior, now at Arsenal – on the only shot taken towards ter Stegen’s goal. A good defensive performance that can only instil confidence ahead of the match against Moldova, a match that must be won at all costs in order to regain at least second place in the group.

Poland can do no wrong

In Group E, in fact, the situation is still completely even, the Czech Republic aside. The Czechs look down on everyone with their seven points, the result of two wins and a draw, and are already looking forward to first place

Poland, on the other hand, are stuck on three points, paired with Albania, who have just got the better of Moldova (2-0). For Serghei Clescenco’s selection it was the first defeat after two draws against the Faroe Islands (1-1) and the Czech Republic (0-0). The fact that in Chisinau the Czechs did not go beyond a zero-zero draw should give Santos and his men pause for thought: it is forbidden to take the commitment lightly. It is no coincidence that the last time Poland played in Moldova (2013, World Cup qualifiers) the match ended 1-1.

The prediction

The victory in the friendly match against Germany can only instil confidence in the Polish players, who should get the better of Moldova. We do not expect a spectacular match: the total number of goals could be less than three.

The likely line-up for Moldova-Poland

  • MOLDOVA (3-5-2): Railean; Posmac, Craciun, Mudrac; Revenco, Caimacov, Rata, Motpan, Cojocari; Nicolaescu, Damascan.
