Like many other clubs in the Premier League (and beyond) Arsenal have also chosen the United States to prepare for the new season which starts in less than a month’s time.
The Gunners have already played a couple of friendlies this preseason, drawing against both Germany’s Nuremberg and Watford. In the States they will instead face a selection of stars from the Mls, the main North American league, which is also in full swing. Wayne Rooney will ‘coach’ this representative team: the former Manchester United striker is now on the bench of DC United, the Washington club that is also the venue for the challenge. Arsenal have played this match once before: it was 2016 and the Gunners prevailed 2-1. Historically this is not an easy match for European clubs, facing quality players who have a lot of extra minutes in their legs as the mls is underway.
