Milan-Cremonese is a match of the thirty-third day of Serie A and is played on Wednesday at 9:00 p.m.: odds, predictions, TV and streaming.
The race for a place in the Champions League day after day becomes fiercer and fiercer: between now and the end of the championship we’re going to see some great things, with as many as six teams involved for the three remaining slots and packed within a handful of points.
A misstep can be detrimental. Stefano Pioli’s AC Milan knows this well, as they managed to avoid defeat in the direct clash at the Stadio Olimpico with José Mourinho’s Roma last Saturday: it ended 1-1 in the capital. It all happened during the dying minutes: Abraham at 93′ brought down the Capitoline stadium but in the next action an almost incredulous Saelemaekers with his goal allowed the Rossoneri to take away a point from the Roman away game. But more importantly, to hold off the same Giallorossi, who by winning would overtake Milan in the standings. The reigning Italian champions still share fourth place with Roma – both paired at 57 – but in the meantime they were also joined by Inter, who beat Lazio in the other Roman-Milan crossroads. Pioli and his men will also have to watch out for Atalanta, who are now only two points down. Within a few days, then, a lot is at stake: first the Lombardy derby with Cremonese, then another big match with Lazio.
Cremonese on the brink of the precipice
Two games that Milan will have the privilege of playing in front of their home crowd, where they have lost only twice in 2023: to Torino in the Coppa Italia and Sassuolo in the league.
The Rossoneri will be facing a team almost resigned to the idea of relegation but in any case with a few more chances than the tail-end Sampdoria, already doomed. Cremonese is on the brink of the precipice but has no intention of pulling the reins in the boat and proved it last Sunday in the salvation clash with Verona. It was a match that the grigiorossi led by Davide Ballardini “almost” won had it not been for Verdi’s goal that allowed the Scaligeri to equalize a quarter of an hour from the end. The 1-1 draw does not move much in terms of the standings. Only with a win would Cremonese get back in the game: the points separating it from third-last place are still seven.
Milan-Cremonese: the latest lineup news
New players in all departments in the starting lineup Pioli has in mind. In defense there will be no disqualified Tomori: in his place here is Thiaw. The Rossoneri coach is thinking of an unseen midfield formed by Bennacer and Vranckx, with the aim of giving Tonali a rest. New faces also on the three-quarter, where De Ketelaere will get yet another chance. Starters Giroud and Leao are also likely to be out: on the ramp are Rebic and Origi.
In Cremonese, Tsadjout (injured) and Quagliata (disqualified) are absent. Ballardini could return to a three-man defense and a more muscular midfield with Meité and Castagnetti. In the three-quarter one between Galdames and Buonaiuto to support Okereke-Dessers.
The Prediction
While Milan lost only two games in front of their fans in 2023, things did not always go as Pioli wished at the San Siro, and the half-steps were not a few. Against Cremonese, the coach might overdo it with rotations in view of Lazio but especially the upcoming Champions League semifinal with Inter: victory, however, does not seem to be in question. The grigiorossi, who stopped Milan at 0-0 in the first leg, cannot expect to just defend. But, in light of the standings situation, they will be called upon to dare, exposing themselves to the Rossoneri’s lethal counterattacks. Who are favored in a match of at least three goals total.
