The politician spoke exclusively to the microphones of calciomercato.it on the Twitch TVPLAY channel. The proposed amendment provides for sixty monthly instalments, the first three of which must be paid by 22 December this year. The amendment also specifies that the payment should be made not only without tax penalties and interest, but also without criminal and sports penalties.

Senator Matteo Renzi is not buying it. He does not want to hear about the ‘Save Football’ decree, and he reiterated this on TVPLAY. Renzi was the only one to openly oppose the manoeuvre also wanted by Lotito (to spread more than 500 million in debt over many years).
‘They are asking for an instalment,’ says Matteo Renzi. “But I ask myself: why does the Premier League earn ten times as much as Serie A in television rights and we don’t? Why does Italian football continue to make money, to solve its problems thanks to Parliament?”
“I’m not afraid to say things that make me lose consensus, it’s immoral and it’s a disgrace that we get to the point where we have to accrue money to Serie A teams.”
“It’s better to give money to local sport, to culture, to build gyms in schools, than to give money to Serie A teams. The aid is immoral, scandalous’. Renzi also attacked Lotito, who in the past few hours insinuated that the Italia Viva leader’s criticism was a fan. For Lotito, in fact, Renzi would speak out against the decree because of conflict of interest, since Fiorentina, the team Renzi cares about, does not agree with the instalment plan.
Renzi also spoke about the issue of stadium construction and Juventus.
‘You know that I’m not a Juventus fan, but I don’t want to get involved in the matter either. You have to put a rule that the clubs don’t run the Lega Calcio like a condominium, because you fight from morning to night and it’s not good, you have to work for the common good. The truth is that I am a visceral anti-juventine, but I am also a garantist and the process will be done in the appropriate places. I have the impression that it may not be limited to Juventus, so great prudence in this respect. I try to trust both ordinary and sporting justice’.
