Manchester City-Sevilla, European Super Cup: streaming, lineups,

by Mike

Manchester City-Sevilla is the match that awards the 2023 European Super Cup and is played Wednesday at 9 p.m.: news, formations, predictions and streaming.

Novellini vs. regulars. The first, strange but true, are Pep Guardiola’s Citizens, who before last May had never won any international trophy except the Cup Winners’ Cup, which they won back in 1970.

Winning the coveted Champions League, lifted on June 10 in the Istanbul final played against Inter Milan, gives Manchester City the chance to play in the European Super Cup for the first time in its history. On the other side of the pitch will be Sevilla, which despite starting as clear underdogs against what is quite possibly the strongest and best-assorted team on the planet, has played this match six times before. The Andalusians, however, managed to triumph only in 2006, the year they won their first Europa League, a competition with which they have had a very special feeling for some 20 years now. Sevilla, despite a turbulent season marked by three changes on the bench, beat Roma on penalty kicks in the Budapest final in May, putting the second-largest continental trophy in their trophy cabinet for the seventh time in the past 17 seasons.

Guardiola without De Bruyne and Bernardo Silva

Two official matches have already been played by City so far.The European champions have quickly got over the disappointment of losing (on penalties) in the Community Shield against Arsenal.

En-Nesyri

En-Nesyri

In the first Premier League match against Burnley we saw again the relentless team we have come to know in recent seasons with the Catalan coach at the helm. The Citizens literally went wild against the newly promoted side coached by their former captain Kompany, scoring three goals while keeping their goal unbroken. Among the main protagonists that Erling Haaland (double) ready for another record-breaking season. Bad debut instead for Jose Luis Mendilibar’s men, beaten at home by a surprising Valencia (1-2). City could debut new signing Gvardiol, bought for 90 million euros from Leipzig, in a defense that is orphaned by Ruben Dias. Also absent are De Bruyne and Bernardo Silva, with the latter to be replaced by Julian Alvarez. In Sevilla, Marcao and Nianzou are forfeiting, while former Eintracht Sow will start from the bench.

The Prediction

In spite of being in the run-in phase, Manchester City should make the most of its greater technical content against a Sevilla side that in its first league outing seemed the distant relative of the one from May. The record, then, does not comfort Mendilibar, as the Andalusians have almost never managed to overturn the odds in the European Super Cup. The Englishmen should close the books as early as regulation time – in the event of a draw it will go straight to penalties – by scoring two to four goals. Sevilla is also likely to score, in a match where the referee might wave a few too many cards.

The probable lineups of Manchester City-Sevilla

  • MANCHESTER CITY (4-2-3-1): Ortega; Walker, Akanji, Gvardiol, Aké; Rodri, Kovacic; Foden, Julian Alvarez, Grealish; Haaland.
  • SEVILLE (4-3-3): Bounou; Jesus Navas, Gudelj, Badé, Acuna; Jordan, Fernando, Rakitic; Suso, En-Nesyri, Ocampos.

POSSIBLE RESULT: 3-1
