Lithuania-Serbia is a match on the sixth day of Group G of Euro 2024 qualifiers and is played on Sunday at 8:45 p.m.: predictions.
Serbia continues to disappoint punctually in important fixtures, and the defeat suffered at the “Marakana” in Belgrade last Thursday against Hungary (1-2) was a blow to the first-place ambitions of Vlahovic and his teammates. Fortunately for Dragan Stojkovic and his men, Montenegro’s “cousins” did not take advantage of it, drawing in Lithuania and missing the hook-up in the standings.
The setback with the Magyars, the first knockout since last December, does not affect anything in terms of qualification, since the first two of each group go to Germany, but it confirms the inability to find a minimum of continuity on the part of this national team, which certainly does not lack talent and quality. Yet the White Eagles’ adventure towards Euro 2024 had started off on the right foot, with the two victories, quite clear-cut, against Lithuania and Montenegro. Two games in which everything had gone right, with Serbia even managing to keep its goal unbeaten. In June, however, came the first misstep against Bulgaria, a selection currently last in the standings along with the Lithuanians, and now the defeat with the Hungarians. Who, after going into a disadvantage due to an unlucky Szalai own goal, did not lose heart and came back, first through Varga and later through Orban.
Second consecutive home draw, on the other hand, for Lithuania, which confirmed itself as a grumpy and unaccommodating team at home.
Anything happened in the challenge with Montenegro, which ended 2-2: Kaunas’ hero was Palauskas, who in the midst of recovery reeled in the Balkans, who were by then convinced they had won after the two goals, scored within minutes, by Krstovic and Savic. Few changes for selector Edgaras Jankauskas, but there will be no major changes in Stojkovic’s lineup either, who is intent on confirming the Vlahovic-Mitrovic attacking pair.
The prediction
Serbia will take the field a few hours after the Montenegro game, which has now become the number one danger for one of the top two spots. A win against lowly Lithuania is needed in any case to turn the page after Thursday’s bad performance: it should come eventually, in a match where the total goals will be at least two.
