JORDAN – SPAIN | Thursday 5pm
Luis Enrique’s Spain may not be among the main favourites for the final victory, with many considering them a step below Brazil, Argentina and France, but the feeling is that sooner or later they will have to come to terms with La Roja. The former Roma and Barcelona coach has managed to open a new cycle after the glories of the previous decade and at the last European Championships he came close to reaching the final, despite a disappointing start. It has also done very well in the Nations League: in the 2021 edition it only surrendered in the final to world champions France, while last September it took first place in its group and will participate in the Final Four for the second time in a row. At Qatar 2022, it should have no major problems reaching the round of 16. Agreed, Germany is also in the group, but the other two selections are all in all affordable, such as Japan and Costa Rica. Morata and his teammates are likely to compete for the top spot with the Germans.
Luis Enrique has decided to make a stop in Jordan before heading to Qatar, where he will face Costa Rica on Wednesday in the first day of the group stage. The opponents in question are the hosts, coached by Iraq’s Adnan Hamad, nothing more than a test that will serve the Roja coach to oil the mechanisms and above all assess the state of form of some of his players. Jordan will not take part in the World Cup but, between the Asian Cup and friendlies, they are coming off five consecutive victories.
