Official line-ups Iran-USA, Queiroz and Berhalter’s men play in the round of 16: prediction of scorers, cautions and marksmen
Iran looked a goner after their 6-2 loss to England in the opening round, but they can still dream of an incredible qualification, thanks to their success in the dying minutes against Wales. The USA also believe in it, despite having so far only picked up two draws against Wales and England. The US selection, however, unlike Queiroz’s men, must win to be certain of qualifying for the round of 16. In short, an in or out match in a group that could still hold a few surprises in store. Here are the line-up choices of the two coaches.
- IRAN (4-3-3): Beiranvand; Rezaeian, M. Hosseini, Pouraliganji, Mohammadi; Nourollahi, Ezatolahi, Haji Safi; Gholizadeh, Azmoun, Taremi. CT: Carlos Queiroz.
- USA (4-3-3): Turner; Dest, Carter-Vickers, Ream, Robinson; McKennie, Adams, Musah; Weah, Sargent, Pulisic. CT: Gregg Berhalter.
Iran-US official line-ups, goalscorer prediction
In the first half we could see a very tight contest, probably characterised by a long study phase. A script that could change in the second half, however, with the USA pressing on the accelerator, as the draw is of little use to them. Berhalter has decided to field Sargent this time and the Norwich striker will in all likelihood end up paying him back. In Iran, however, the most dangerous man is the usual Taremi, but Azmoun is also one of those who can find the way to goal.
Iran-US official line-ups, likely cautions and marksmen
This could be the game for Pulisic, who with his quality is capable of jumping over a man and challenging goalkeeper Beiranvard on at least a couple of occasions. A shot on goal by the Iranian striker Taremi, author of a brace against England, is also expected. Referees McKennie and Nourollahi could be in the referee’s sights instead.
