Hungary-Bulgaria is a match from the second day of Euro 2024 qualifying Group G and is played on Monday at 20:45: TV, predictions
Hungary are looking forward to building on the progress they have made in recent international competitions, trying to qualify for Euro 2024 without having to go through any play-offs.
MThe Magyar football movement is on the rise and this was clearly seen in the Nations League: Marco Rossi’s selection, despite not making it to the Final Four, had unparalleled successes, beating England twice – including a historic 4-0 win at Wembley – and remaining unbeaten against Germany, who were also beaten at home. Roberto Mancini’s Azzurri, on the other hand, got the better of Hungary in both the first leg and the return leg to take first place. The only flaw for Szoboszlai and his teammates – who had also performed well at Euro 2020 – is the failure to qualify for Qatar 2022. In one of the most competitive groupings they came within three points of second-placed Poland, failing to snatch a pass for the play-offs.
Bulgaria already with their backs to the wall
Rossi can rely on an established group whose main weapons are team spirit and tactical organisation.
The goal is to return to play a European Championship – it would be the third in a row – and in a group with Serbia, Montenegro, Lithuania and Bulgaria, it should not be a problem to finish in the top two. The adventure starts with a challenge at the Puskas Arena against Bulgaria, who, unlike Hungary, have already made their debut. Mladen Krstajic’s men seem to have their backs to the wall already, defeated on their debut 1-0 by surprising Montenegro, who broke their streak of six consecutive useful results between friendlies and the Nations League. Bulgaria did not demerit from the point of view of play, but what they continue to lack is a thoroughbred goalscorer: neither Despodov nor Delev, two Ludogorets centre-forwards, were able to convert the multiple chances they created against the Montenegrins into goals.
The Prediction
Hungary want to start on the right foot, proving they can challenge Serbia for first place in the group. A Hungarian victory is likely: the hosts should also keep their goal unbroken against Bulgaria
