Wales-Latvia is a match on the second day of Group D of Euro 2024 qualifying and is played on Tuesday at 20:45: tv, predictions.
A goal from debutant Broadhead in stoppage time enabled Wales to avoid a defeat that appeared certain at home to top-ranked Croatia. A golden point for Robert Page’s Dragons prevented a direct contender for one of the top two spots from taking an early lead on full points.
Galles, however, did not deserve to come back from Split with points in their pockets for what they showed on the pitch, showing an almost exclusively obstructive attitude and hardly ever showing up on Livakovic’s side. Thus began with a positive result the ‘new era’ of the British national team, which after the World Cup in Qatar had to take note of the retirement of its strongest and most representative player, Gareth Bale. It was by no means a foregone conclusion that Ramsey and his teammates would come out of the Croatian trip unscathed: the white and red chequered selection had won 34 of their last 35 home games in the European Championship qualifiers. It will all be in vain, however, if Wales fail to get the better of one of the two weak links – the other being Armenia – in the grouping: Latvia.
Latvia are in confidence
There is no official precedent with the Baltic national team. The two sides have only played each other in friendly matches: it was 2004 and the current selector was on the pitch defending the colours of Wales. And the British won 2-0.
Latvia have not yet made their Euro 2024 qualifying debut – they were rested on the first day – but they arrive at the appointment with confidence, by virtue of their excellent performance in the Nations League, where they gained promotion to League C by finishing ahead of Moldova on goal difference. Last week, Dainis Kazakevics’ team played a friendly against Ireland: they lost 3-2 but one cannot but underline the reaction of the amaranth players after being two goals down, putting fear into a qualitatively superior selection like the one led by Stephen Kenny.
The Prediction
Wales, having avoided defeat in the last minute against the strongest national team in the group, Croatia, have the opportunity to achieve their first success against a less competitive selection such as Latvia. For the British, however, it will not be an easy night: the Baltics showed good things in the friendly against Ireland and will not give up easily. The total number of goals could be less than four.
