Genoa v Frosinone, Serie B: streaming, odds, predictions

by Martin

Genoa-Frosinone is a Serie B Week 18 match and will be played on Sunday at 20:45: odds, predictions, TV and streaming

On the one hand the team that is doing the best and the worst in this Serie B championship, on the other the one that in theory should have done it but for the moment has to settle for a disappointing fourth place. The challenge between Genoa and Frosinone offers numerous cues and among them are the numbers that characterise it. It almost makes an impression, in fact, to see that between the two there is currently a gap of a good nine points in the standings.

The arduous task of bringing the Grifone back to the top has been entrusted to Alberto Gilardino, who a fortnight ago took over from the exonerated Alexander Blessin, whose two consecutive defeats against Perugia and Cittadella were fatal. The former AC Milan and Fiorentina striker made his debut with a victory: Puscas and Aramu defeated the hostile Sudtirol, allowing Genoa to return to winning ways after five days of abstinence. Now they need to find the continuity that has been lacking up to now: in this sense last Sunday’s draw in the away match in Ascoli was a step backwards, especially from an offensive point of view, with Strootman and his team-mates scoring with the dropper despite being able to count on several talented players who are a luxury for the category.

The Frosinone test will probably tell whether Genoa are ready to throw down the gauntlet to the top of the class: the ciociari, precisely, and Reggina. Fabio Grosso’s team meanwhile slowed down again in their home match against Pisa, not going beyond a far from exciting 0-0. The Calabrians, overwhelmed 3-0 only a few days before, thus nibbled two points off the leader, who nevertheless boasts a good nine points over the third in the standings. However, Frosinone recorded yet another clean sheet: only 10 goals were conceded by the Giallazzurri, which means the best defence in the league.

Genoa v Frosinone: the latest line-up news

Gilardino’s transition from a 4-2-3-1 to a 4-3-3 is now clear, and in order to break down the sturdy defence of the Frosinone side he will field the trident formed by Aramu, Coda and Gudmundsson. Jagiello should play in the middle, while Ekuban, Pajac and Portanova remain out.

Sampirisi

On the other hand, Grosso should not change the eleven that faced Pisa last Sunday. He too will opt for the 4-3-3, with Insigne and Garritano in the trident with Mulattieri.

The prediction

There’s no point getting around it: it would be crucial for Genoa to win this big match – a confidence boost to climb the table – but Frosinone have already shown on several occasions that they excel in important matches. We imagine that the one at the ‘Ferraris’ will be a hard-fought match, in which the ciociari should manage to avoid defeat. The total number of goals is likely to be less than four.
