Genoa-Cosenza is a Serie B Week 28 match played on Monday at 20:30: odds, predictions, TV and streaming
Overtaken by Bari and pegged on 47 points by the surprising Sudtirol, Genoa will attempt to reclaim second place behind Serie B powerhouse Frosinone on Monday night. The Ciociari have immediately resumed winning ways and the feeling is that one of the two places that guarantee direct promotion to the top flight – barring any upheaval – has already been assigned. For second place, however, the tussle continues.
It has been a very irregular trend for Alberto Gilardino’s team for a few weeks now. The Marassi proves to be a fortress for the Grifone – Genoa have not lost at their own stadium since their defeat to Cittadella last December – and in their last two home games at the ‘Ferraris’ both Palermo and Spal have fallen, both without scoring, while away from home Strootman and his team-mates have not gone beyond two draws against Modena and Cagliari, and the last away success dates back to a month and a half ago. Although struggling to find the continuity that would allow them to take the lead and break away from their pursuers, Genoa have changed pace with the arrival of the former AC Milan and Fiorentina striker on the bench, and it is no coincidence that since the exoneration of German Blessin, the Ligurians have lost only one match and have scored more points than all of them (26), with the exception of the highly-rated Frosinone.
It is almost a tailspin that with Cosenza, back in last place after yesterday’s match results. The Calabrians are, however, fresh from an electrifying derby victory over the better-ranked Reggina, who were reeled in in the final minutes of the game by a deadly one-two from young striker Nasti, on loan from AC Milan. Three points that gave back oxygen to William Viali’s team, still in the race for salvation. In order to remain in B, the Lupi will have to improve their away performance, where they have barely won a game.
Genoa-Cosenza: the latest line-up news
Genoa are missing Coda, the experienced striker filling an infirmary where Aramu, Boci, Pajac and Ekuban are already in. In midfield Badelj and Criscito will probably be preferred to Strootman and Haps. The attack will be led by Puscas.
Viali will respond with a 4-3-2-1: Florenzi starts from the bench, in midfield the coach will give space to Brescianini, Calò and Cortinovis. Finotto and Voca are unavailable.
The Prediction
Cosenza, regenerated from their success against Reggina, could initially create some problems for Genoa, but the hosts’ success should not be in doubt. Between the two teams, in fact, there is a technical abyss. Marassi then has become a fortress, while away from home the Calabrians are disastrous. Gilardino’s men are also likely to keep their goal unbeaten, as in the last two home games.
