Salernitana-Juventus is a Serie A Week 21 match to be played on Tuesday at 20:45: odds, predictions, TV and streaming
Who would have thought it. Salernitana and Juventus both sit on the right-hand side of the table in February, just two points behind, ready to clash more than four months after that fixture which generated an uproar because Bonucci’s goal was disallowed for offside (only to discover later that Candreva was keeping the Bianconeri defender in play).
Massimiliano Allegri didn’t beat around the bush. And after the match he won against Lazio in the Coppa Italia – a success that allowed his team to qualify for the semi-final, where they will face Inter – he spoke of a salvation clash. This is not an exaggeration: if we take a look at the ranking, we can see that the Bianconeri, after the penalty of fifteen points decided by the FIGC Court of Appeal for the capital gains case, are thirteenth, three positions above the fifth-last granata. The situation, in short, is not the best, considering that other penalties could arrive in the future. In the meantime, there was a first reaction against Maurizio Sarri’s Biancocelesti: Juventus returned to winning ways and did so for the first time in almost a month. With a ‘short face’, keeping their goal unbeaten after four games in which they had conceded eleven.
Equilibrium in previous matches at the Arechi
A match decided by a dunk from defender Bremer, taking advantage of an indecision by Maximiano, while the two returnees Chiesa and Vlahovic were left out.
The Salernitana also got the joy of three points back, breaking a fast that had been going on since last autumn and which had caused Davide Nicola’s dismissal, then immediately recalled by president Iervolino. The coach experimented with a few tactical innovations, such as switching to a four-man defence, and after the physiological defeat in the Campania derby against Napoli, the Granata went on to win (1-2) in Lecce in a direct clash of great importance, moving away from the relegation zone. There is great balance in the matches between Salernitana and Juventus played at the Arechi: one win on each side – the Campania side’s victory dates back to 1999 – and a draw on a pitch that is not easy to violate.
Salernitana-Juventus: latest line-up news
Nicola is expected to confirm the 4-3-3 deployed in Lecce, with Candreva in the attacking trident alongside Dia and Piatek and Sambia and Bradaric on the outside of defence. In midfield Nicolussi Caviglia seems favoured over Bohinen, while in the centre of the rearguard we will see the pair formed by Broon and Troost Ekong again. Gyomber, Maggiore, Mazzocchi and Fazio are absent.
On the other side, Allegri will opt for an attacking tandem formed by Vlahovic and Di Maria, with Kean ready to enter as the game progresses. On the right flank, Chiesa and Cuadrado will compete for a shirt, with the Colombian likely to get the worst of it. Nothing to do for Milik, Bonucci, Paredes and Pogba. In defence more Alex Sandro than Gatti.
The prediction
Juventus should get back to winning ways in the league after picking up just one point between Napoli, Atalanta and Monza. But it will not all go smoothly in the Arechi challenge, against a Salernitana rejuvenated by the victory in Lecce. As these are two teams that have so far scored several more goals in the second half (19 Juve, 14 Salernitana), we assume a more prolific second half than the first. It cannot be ruled out that the granata will manage to score at least one, against a less airtight defence than a few weeks ago.
