Everton v Tottenham, Premier League: odds, predictions

by Martin

Everton-Tottenham is a match valid for the twenty-ninth day of the Premier League and is played on Monday at 21:00: TV, predictions.

During the break for national team commitments, the Conte era at Tottenham came to an end. It was almost a foregone conclusion after the Salento coach went on yet another rant in the last game before the break. Spurs had let themselves be caught up in the midst of recovery by bottom-of-the-table Southampton and the coach had had it in for everyone as usual.

At that point exoneration was the only way forward. The London club broke off their relationship with Conte in a consensual manner, entrusting the team to his deputy Cristian Stellini, who was much appreciated in the environment when he had to replace the former Juventus and Inter Milan leader, recently absent for health reasons. It will be up to him and Ryan Mason – who had already taken over from José Mourinho a year and a half ago – to ferry Tottenham to the end of the season, trying not to let the Champions League goal slip away. Yesterday’s results, meanwhile, were not particularly positive for Spurs, who were overtaken again by Newcastle. The Magpies beat Manchester United in their clash and moved back to fourth place, one point ahead of the English capital but two games behind.

Penalisation in sight for Everton?

Stellini will make his debut at Goodison Park against an Everton side who are struggling to keep their category and avoid a relegation that would make a lot of noise.

The Toffees have been on a three-day winning streak (two draws and a win), a sign that the work of Sean Dyche, who took over from Frank Lampard a few weeks ago, is slowly starting to pay off. However, it might be too late: Everton are third-last, paired with Leeds on 26 points, and are in serious danger of relegation. To disturb the sleep of the fans in recent days has come the accusation against the club of violating financial fair play, which could also result in possible penalty points. Although it is not clear whether Everton would serve them this season or next.

The Prediction

Everton have not beaten Tottenham at Goodison Park since back in 2012 and in the last twenty previous fixtures they have only managed on one occasion to get the better of Spurs. With Dyche on the bench the Toffees have become a difficult team to score against due to their often ultra-defensive attitude, but in this match an emotional reaction is to be expected from Tottenham, who are keen to turn over a new leaf after Conte’s noisy departure. The goals should be at least two.

The likely Everton-Tottenham line-ups

  • EVERTON (4-5-1): Pickford; Coleman, Keane, Tarkowski, Godfrey; Iwobi, Onana, Gueye, Doucouré, McNeil; Gray.
  • TOTTENHAM (3-4-3): Forster; Romero, Dier, Lenglet; Pedro Porro, Skipp, Hojbjerg, Perisic; Kulusevski, Kane, Son.

POSSIBLE RESULT: 1-2
