Czech Republic-Faroe Islands is a match valid for the eighth day of Euro 2024 qualifying Group E and is played Sunday at 6 p.m.: predictions.
The Czech Republic saw a six-game unbeaten streak shattered in the most important match, which must not be missed: the direct clash with Albania. Last Thursday in Tirana, however, it all went wrong for the selection led by Jaroslav Silhavy, overwhelmed with a 3-0 without appeal by the hosts.
A very ugly defeat that seriously risks ousting the Czechs from the final stage of the next European championship: it would be the first time since they have been competing as an independent nation, namely since 1993. In previous editions, from ’96 onward, they have in fact always qualified. Down by a goal already after nine minutes of play, at the end of the first half striker Chytil – deployed from 1′ in place of Cvancara, who was not at his best – got himself sent off for double caution, leaving his teammates in a numerical inferiority. From that moment on, things, for Albania, went downhill, and during the second half came Seferi’s double that definitely cut the legs off Soucek and his teammates. The situation, as mentioned earlier, is getting more complicated: with Albania well on its way to qualification, currently vying for second place are Poland, the Czech Republic and Moldova, packed within one point (the Poles have played one more game).
Qualification at risk for the Czechs
Silhavy’s selection absolutely cannot afford to slip up in the last three remaining matches, including a sizzling clash with Poland scheduled for November.
It will be crucial, however, not to fail the appointment with the three points against Faroe Islands and Moldova, the two most affordable representatives of the group. It will be the Scandinavians, last in the standings with only one point won in six days, the Czech Republic’s next opponent at the Doosan Arena in Plzen. After drawing in the opener with Moldova (1-1), the Faroese have reeled off five consecutive defeats, conceding a total of 11 goals and barely scoring one. Without history, the confrontation with the Czech Republic, which prevailed 3-0 in remote Torshavn last June.
The prediction
The Czech Republic is heavily favored and against the Faroe Islands should immediately turn the page after the defeat in Tirana, thus getting back on track. In front of their own public, the Czechs have lost only once in their last 11 matches and are really unlikely to stumble over a far inferior selection like the Scandinavian one. Czech victory in a match in which Soucek and his teammates will score no less than three goals.
