One of the fiercest derbies in the country, the match between Santos and Corinthians, is surely the highlight of the eleventh day of the Brazilian top league, the Brasileirao.
Two teams that are not going through a good moment: just take a look at the standings to see that. The worst off is Corinthians, who have only picked up nine points in 10 matches. Santos, on the other hand, has 13 points but is already far from the positions that count. And, as of today, they would not even qualify for the Copa Sudamericana. Timao have the worst away performance: they are the only team that away from their own public has not yet won a single point, collecting five defeats out of five. It won’t be easy, therefore, to return with a positive result from the ‘temple’ of Santos, one of the few unbeaten teams in home matches: a draw could be useful for both, but we don’t expect a spectacular match, on the contrary.
Another São Paulo club, Palmeiras, the only team still undefeated, also takes the field on the night. The haul of six wins and four draws does not, however, allow Verdao to look down on everyone: there is only one that has done better, the leader Botafogo, who has two points more than Abel Ferreira’s men. Palmeiras should in any case get a comfortable success at home to Bahia, 15th with 9 points.

Repectively seventh and eighth in the standings, São Paulo and Athletico Paranaense dream of catching fourth place. At the Murumbi, the other match to be enjoyed between two teams that have the potential to reach important goals but have proved too inconsistent in recent matches.
Arias of Fluminense
A token can be spent on São Paulo, as Athletico Paranaense has left something to be desired on the road, barely winning four points in five games. In an anonymous zone of the standings are Cruzeiro and Fortaleza, who have 14 points apiece. Cruzeiro are in a peculiar moment: after a good start, the club from Belo Horizonte has forgotten how to win and has been missing the appointment with three points for four days. Neither are the guests, who have immediately returned to the ranks. It is difficult, in short, to glimpse a clear favourite: both should score. Finally, Atletico Mineiro are likely to make a splash against Fluminense, who have barely won a game since mid-May and seem to be in freefall.
