Brasileirao 2023: predictions for Sunday 30 July matches

by Thorsten

Brasileirao 2023, Botafogo aiming for their ninth home win. But watch out for a healthy Coritiba: predictions.

Botafogo’s run has come to a halt after six consecutive victories. A week ago, Bruno Lage’s team, at the top of the standings eleven points ahead of second-placed Gremio, did not go beyond a draw at home to Santos (2-2). The Bianconeri recovered five minutes from the end, with two goals from Tiquinho Soares and Adryelson preventing the Brasileirao leaders from their first defeat in almost two months.

The performance of the Fogao players will certainly have been affected by the close engagement with the Patronato in the Copa Sudamericana: three days before the match with Santos, Botafogo had played in the cup, snatching the qualification to the next round thanks to the 1-1 draw against the Argentinians. The week of rest will certainly have benefited the first of the class, who against Coritiba will try to conquer the eighth home victory in eight matches played in front of their own public. Botafogo at home have not only not lost yet, but also not drawn, barely conceding a goal. The visitors, however, are expected to sell their skins: Coritiba are third to last, but in their last four matches they have been on the upswing, scoring ten out of twelve points.

Brasileirao 2023: America Mineiro a threat for Palmeiras

São Paulo also take to the pitch, aiming to put behind them the two defeats they suffered in the league against Cuiaba and in the Copa do Brasil against Corinthians

The Tricolor Paulista has the second best domestic performance in the Brasileirao after Botafogo with seven wins and one defeat and should get a positive result against Bahia, unable to win a match since last June. Palmeiras, who have returned to smile after three draws and two defeats between the cup and the championship, will attempt to continue their victory over Fortaleza. The Achilles’ heel of the defending champions, however, is away matches: in the last six they have won only once. The challenge with America Mineiro, who were able to impose a draw on Flamengo a week ago, promises to be more balanced than expected. Also likely to avoid defeat is Gremio, which, pending the result of Mengao – on the pitch 24 hours earlier against Atletico Mineiro – remains second in the standings. The Porto Alegre club go in search of precious points on the field of Goias, only 16th.
