Brasileirao 2023: predictions for Saturday 1 July matches

by Martin

Brasileirao 2023, the first matches of the 13th day of the Brazilian top league are played: predictions.

The Brasileirao, Brazil’s top league, is back on track after an intense week in which the spotlight was entirely on the two continental cups, Libertadores and Sudamericana. All in pursuit of Botafogo, which after the last day has created a real furrow (seven points) between first and second place.

The 13th round is spread over four days. The first match scheduled is between São Paulo and Fluminense, respectively 11th and 5th, but separated by only three points. The left side of the classification, as you may have guessed, is very short. The Tricolor Paulista, fresh from their 2-0 victory over Tigre Argentinians in the Copa Sudamericana – a victory that was essentially useless, given that São Paulo dominated their group, taking first place with several days to spare – can take advantage of this to climb a few positions and get closer to fourth place. In the championship it has lost some ground after the two defeats in the last three rounds against Palmeiras and Cruzeiro.

The fans at the legendary Morumbi Stadium could lend a hand. In front of its own public, São Paulo has only lost to Palmeiras, winning 15 of its 18 points at home. Against a Fluminense side limping away – they have not won since May – they should at least avoid defeat in a match with at least one goal each. The match between Gremio, who jumped to second place after two wins in a row against America MG and Coritiba, and Bahia was also lively. The winning streak should continue against the Salvador club, which has only won once since May and is 14th in the standings.

Brasileirao 2023: Flamengo looking for continuity

Flamengo are also on the hunt for confirmation: after a shaky start, to say the least, the Mengao want to find continuity

The Rossoneri, who earlier in the week snatched qualification for the Libertadores round of 16 by thrashing Aucas 4-0, now look to pick up more points in the league. The shock victory against Cruzeiro (2-3) allowed Jorge Sampaoli’s men to move up to third place and forget about the ugly setback against Bragantino, but against Fortaleza they will need to keep winning if they are not to be at square one again. Flamengo’s matches this year rarely see few goals: it is no coincidence that the Rossoneri’s is the most prolific attack in the Brasileirao. On the Italian night between Saturday and Sunday, Internacional, who finished in first place in the Libertadores round thanks to their success against the Colombians of Independiente de Medellin, will also take the field.

Fourth win in a row between competitions for Colorado, who have not lost in a month and a half. It might be worth betting a chip on the Porto Alegre club against Cruzeiro, in another match that should yield at least three goals in total. In the last seven matches, in fact, Internacional have only kept their goal unbeaten on one occasion.
