Lopetegui’s Sevilla’s defeat at the Osasuna ground in their first league game was, without doubt, unexpected. The Andalusians lost on a difficult pitch, but after having put things right with Mir’s goal in the 11th minute and two minutes after the hosts’ Avila had taken the lead. It looked, soon afterwards, as if the visiting side might win the game because of what they were managing to create, but a defensive lapse in the second half practically sent Osasuna to heaven.
There was a need to get back on track immediately. And the occasion came propitiously against a Valladolid side that proved to be little things and are still hoping for some reinforcements from the market. The opener was a tragedy against Villarreal, who strolled to a three-nil victory, laying bare all those shortcomings that had partly come to light in pre-season. When an organised team showed up, Rojo Martin’s men could do little. Difficult, then, that in just one week’s work they could really put things right. That is why Sevilla have a very important opportunity and one they should take advantage of.
The Prediction
After the fall in the first league match, Sevilla can definitely not make any more mistakes. Victory for Lopetegui’s team, who should also manage to break the deadlock in the first 45 minutes of the game.
