La Liga’s third day closes with the Madrid derby between the increasingly surprising Rayo Vallecano, which can even dream of staying on full points after two games – it would be the only one to do so along with Real Madrid’s “cousins” – and Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid, just back from a scoreless draw in Sevilla against Betis.
The Colchoneros had debuted with a 3-1 victory achieved against newly promoted Granada but in Andalusia they had to settle for a point. However, it was not a great performance that they offered at the “Villamarin” against a possible direct competitor: Oblak and his teammates limited themselves to containing the attacks of Manuel Pellegrini’s lineup. At the points Betis would have deserved something more but Atletico managed, thanks to its proverbial organization in the non-possession phase, to keep the goal inviolate. In the trip to Vallecas they will have to not afford to take the Matagigantes, who apparently are not suffering at all from the farewell of their former coach Iraola, now at Bournemouth in the Premier League, under any circumstances. So far two wins out of two for Francisco Rodriguez’s red-and-whites, who have taken advantage of a favorable calendar, beating Almeria and Granada away from home, both by the score of 0-2.
Atletico obviously has a different carat, and there is a lot of curiosity about how Rayo will fare against a team of the Colchoneros’ caliber, which is very solid in its own half. Rodriguez will field a similar lineup to the one that bent Granada last weekend, with the only doubt in attack between the recovered de Tomas and Nteka. Simeone, on the other hand, must choose one between Depay and Morata. Out are Reinildo, Gimenez and Koke.

It could be a more balanced match than expected, between two teams that have barely conceded a goal in two so far. Atletico Madrid hasn’t lost in six games against its compatriots, and once again should manage to avoid defeat in a match in which the total goals are likely to be less than four.
