Two teams that are likely to be involved in the fight for salvation until the end of the tournament. For now, barring any unlikely sorties in the course of the championship, that is the objective of Espanyol and the newly promoted Real Valladolid. So it is to all intents and purposes a direct clash that will be staged on Sunday afternoon at the RCDE Stadium in Cornellà de Llobregat. Those worse off are the Catalans, who are currently third-last in the company of Cádiz: in nine La Liga matches they have collected just six points. Real Valladolid also picked up a draw: last Sunday they stopped the formidable Betis at 0-0, taking advantage of former Fiorentina defender Pezzella’s sending-off which left Pellegrini’s green-and-whites ten men for the entire second half. It was the second consecutive useful result for the Ronaldo-led club: seven days earlier had come the second win of the season in the sensational 2-3 at home to Getafe.
