Cadiz-Elche is a match from the 17th day of La Liga and is played on Monday at 21:00: odds, predictions, TV and streaming

Temperatures are high at the Nuevo Mirandilla in Cadiz, the scene of the post-match between the hosts and Elche, two teams embroiled in the fight for relegation. Heavy points are on the line, although there is a feeling that for Pablo Machin’s green-and-whites this may well be one of the last calls to get back into the race for safety.

Elche have been at the bottom of the table for some time now, with only four points from sixteen games: nobody has done worse in the top five European leagues. To be more precise, the fourth-last Real Valladolid have even thirteen points more than the Franjiverdes, whose hopes of keeping their category, barring sensational miracles, would already seem to have vanished. Elche is the only team in La Liga that has not yet won a single match and the numbers are disastrous in both halves of the pitch: its worst attack (10 goals) and worst defence (34 goals conceded). The only two successes of the season have come in the Copa del Rey, but against teams in lower categories. In the league, Machin’s men have been losing continuously since last October, when they managed to snatch a draw against Espanyol. A week ago, however, they surrendered 1-0 to Celta Vigo.

For Cadiz, on the other hand, it is a great opportunity to make a big leap in the standings and take themselves out of the relegation zone. Sergio’s Gialloblù started the calendar year on a high: after a home draw against Almeria, they won at home to Gennaro Gattuso’s Valencia, who were beaten thanks to a goal from midfielder Alcaraz. A very important victory, a not inconsiderable confidence boost to be able to continue chasing another salvation after last year’s miraculous one.

The Prediction

Cadiz should obtain a fundamental success in order to momentarily leave the relegation zone and sink the tail-end Elche even further. The total number of goals is likely to be less than three, given the two teams’ uninspiring offensive numbers.
