Atletico Madrid v Real Madrid, La Liga: TV, streaming, formations, predictions

by Martin

Atletico Madrid v Real Madrid is a match on the sixth day of La Liga and is played on Sunday at 21:00

ATLETICO MADRID – REAL MADRID

The Madrid derby is undoubtedly the match of the day in La Liga, the one that will be in the spotlight the most. The match will be played at the Civitas Metropolitano, the stadium of the Colchoneros, who are hungry for points after a start that has been too erratic for a team aiming to challenge, as every year, the duopoly represented by Barcelona and Real. The men led by ‘Cholo’ Simeone are lacking in continuity: in the league they beat Getafe and Valencia, but fell at home against Villarreal; then a draw in San Sebastian against Real Sociedad and finally the resounding 4-1 success against Celta Vigo on the last day. There were also contrasting results in the Champions League: having disposed of their main antagonist for top spot in the group, Porto, Atletico were inexplicably overwhelmed in Germany by Bayer Leverkusen (2-0), a side who are currently struggling at home.

In contrast, Real Madrid’s journey was impeccable. The reigning European champions know no other results than victory. In the league they are the only ones still with full points, but even on the continental stage they left only crumbs to Celtic and Leipzig, overwhelmed 3-0 and 2-0 respectively, victories that allow Carlo Ancelotti to mortgage the first place in the round. Not to be underestimated is the fact that Real are continuing to rack up victory after victory despite the absence of Benzema: the French centre forward is likely to remain at rest in the derby. In attack, there will be space for the Brazilian Rodrygo, assisted in the trident by Vinicius and Valverde. Atletico have problems in defence: Simeone will have to do without Savic and Gimenez, but Oblak will be back

The Prediction

Real Madrid couldn’t have got off to a better start. Stronger than adversity, the Blancos are likely to get a positive result at the Metropolitano, which they have failed to conquer since 2019. Atletico, for obvious reasons, care so much about this match and will, as usual, sell their skins dearly. Leaving aside the final result, we expect a balanced match, in which both teams could score.
