After the disaster of being eliminated from the Champions League, the Colchoneros have started again after the World Cup in a different mood and in just two months they have almost managed to close the gap to Real Sociedad, who have occupied the third step of the podium behind Barcelona and Real Madrid for some time now. And therefore to Saturday night’s match against Sevilla, to extend the unbeaten streak in the league to eight games.
The Colchoneros are unbeaten in seven matches
After the home defeat to Barcelona, Atletico Madrid have not lost a game since, with the exception of the Copa del Rey derby with Real. Koke and his team-mates had almost managed to avenge themselves last Saturday, coming close to a historic victory at the Bernabeu: leading with Gimenez ten minutes from the end (despite being outnumbered) they conceded the equaliser when they were already looking forward to the three points.

Black clouds are gathering over Sevilla once again. Jorge Sampaoli’s men, after going through in the Europa League against Psv Eindhoven, seem to have lost their way. An away draw against Rayo Vallecano (1-1) was followed by a home defeat against Osasuna (2-3), a setback that does not allow the Andalusians to move away from the relegation zone, just two points away. In the match at the Civitas Metropolitano Sampaoli will not be able to rely on the disqualified Fernando, who was sent off against Osasuna. On the other side Simeone will have to do without Correa, Molina, Reguilon, De Paul and probably also former Inter player Kondogbia.
The prediction
Atletico Madrid are back to being the solid and cynical team we have come to know during the Simeone era and, despite a host of absentees, they should be able to get the better of a Sevilla side that are still too erratic and moody. The total number of goals is likely to be less than three, and the under has always been the case in the last five matches involving the Madrid men.
