Returning to the pitch for the third time in the last ten days is Sevilla, defeated Wednesday by Manchester City in Athens after penalty kicks. At stake in the Greek capital was the European Super Cup, which the Andalusians were playing as holders of the Europa League, which they won last May in Budapest against Mourinho’s Roma.
But if in the Magyar land the shots from the penalty spot rewarded Jose Luis Mendilibar’s men, in the match against Pep Guardiola’s team they were instead fatal to them: the defender Gudelj’s mistake was decisive, giving the Citizens their fourth trophy of the calendar year. Sevilla, however, has little to reproach itself for: thanks to an impeccable defensive performance it had put the reigning European champions in check, at least for a time. But striker En-Nesyri, author of the goal of the momentary lead, twice failed to score the possible double, allowing City to take back the reins of the match and bring the result back to a draw. Despite the disappointment of the vanished trophy, the “real” Sevilla was seen again, a completely different team from the one that had been defeated in its league opener with Valencia (1-2) at the “Sanchez-Pizjuan” the previous weekend.

In the meantime, another transfer materialized, that of Moroccan goalkeeper Bounou, who also ended up in Arabia. Thus Dmitrovic will play in Vitoria, but in the center of defense Badé, who was sent off against Valencia, will be missing. In our opinion, Sevilla will avoid defeat, taking their first points of the season, but it will not be easy to pierce the Basque defense, which will be holed up in its penalty area most of the time.
