Wolverhampton-Manchester City, Premier League: fixtures, predictions

by Sabrina

Wolverhampton-Manchester City is a match on the seventh day of the Premier League and is played on Saturday at 16:00: TV, formations, predictions.

Manchester City’s first defeat of the season in regulation time came in the third round of the League Cup, what until a few years ago was one of Pep Guardiola’s ‘favourite’ competitions (they won five in six seasons).

That hasn’t been the case for a while now: the Cityzens this time were eliminated straight away, after losing 1-0 at St. James’ Park to Newcastle. The Magpies played a defensively attentive game and took the lead in the second half with a goal from Swede Isak after having repeatedly risked going under in a first half that was almost entirely City’s own. A false step that, in any case, certainly does not make the Catalan coach, still with full points in the Premier League, despair. The champions of England and Europe in the league have shown no sign of letting up, nor the feeling of having a full belly after racking up trophies last season. Manchester City are managing to keep the level up despite some heavy absences, one of them being captain De Bruyne, who is still out for several months. Against Wolverhampton there will also be no Rodri, the hero of the final in Istanbul, who received a red card in last Saturday’s match against Nottingham Forest, won 2-0 by the Cityzens.

Wolves concede too many goals

Wolves since their only win so far against Everton have recorded two defeats to Crystal Palace and Liverpool and a draw with newly promoted Luton Town.

In the week they also exited the League Cup, surrendering 3-2 to Ipswich Town, a club who are doing very well in the Championship and who certainly had more motivation than Gary O’Neil’s men. Wolverhampton’s big problem continues to be conceding far too many goals: with 12 goals conceded, the black and gold are the third worst defence in the English top flight.

The Prediction

We expect a comfortable win from City, eager to redeem their League Cup misstep. Wolverhampton are not doing well, especially in the non-possession phase, and will probably struggle to contain the second best attack in the tournament. The total goals, on the afternoon at Molineux, will be at least three.

The likely Wolverhampton-Manchester City line-ups

  • WOLVERHAMPTON (4-3-3): José Sà; Semedo, Dawson, Kilman, Ait-Nouri; Joao Gomes, Traoré, Lemina; Pedro Neto, Cunha, Hwang Hee-Chan.
  • MANCHESTER CITY (4-2-3-1): Ederson; Walker, Akanji, Ruben Dias, Aké; Kovacic, Matheus Nunes; Foden, Julian Alvarez, Doku; Haaland.

POSSIBLE RESULT: 1-4
