Venezuela-Mexico, Copa America: streaming, probable formations, predictions

by Lea

Venezuela-Mexico is a match valid for the second day of the group stage of the Copa America and is played on Thursday at 03:00 (Italian time): statistics, probable formations, predictions.

Among the most surprising results that came out of the first day of Copa America ’24 we can count Venezuela’s success against Ecuador. A very precious victory, which matured in the second half, when first Cadiz and then Bello in the round of just 10 minutes turned over the Tricolor (1-2) and gave Fernando Batista’s Vinotinto three crucial points in view of qualification.

We do not know, however, if the outcome of the match would have been the same if Ecuadorean center forward Valencia had not committed a levity by getting himself sent off and leaving his selection in ten after just twenty-two minutes of play. The numerical inferiority was probably decisive, but it was not a foregone conclusion that Venezuela, which at the squad level has something less than Ecuador, would be able to take advantage of it. The fact of the matter is that Batista’s men ended a five-game win fast that lasted between friendlies and qualifiers for the upcoming World Cup. Rondon and his teammates will now be able to take on Mexico, a representative with whom they currently share the top spot in Group B on 3 points, with some lightheartedness. El Tri in the opener won narrowly over a stout Jamaica, finding the way to a goal only 20 minutes into the match thanks to a flick by fullback Arteaga (1-0).

A possible success against Venezuela – to which it has never lost in its previous 13 matches – would allow Jaime Lozano’s team to detach a pass for the round of 16 with a day to spare.

And above all, to avoid a crossover with defending champion Argentina thanks to (likely) first place. However, the Mexican coach will have to do without Edson Alvarez, one of his staples, who hurt his knee and is likely to have already ended his Copa America.

The prediction

The loss of a player like Alvarez is a bad blow for Mexico, which may suffer something against a Venezuela rejuvenated by its success with Ecuador. El Tri will almost certainly manage to avoid defeat but it would not be a surprise if the Vinotinto takes away at least a point from this match.
