Sinner about-face: after the official announcement of the positivity and non-disqualification, everything broke loose. Here’s what’s going on
Everything has been going on in the past few days. But the good thing, and we’re not talking about the doping tests Sinner underwent, is that the blue tennis player, number one in the world rankings, has unburdened himself after his acquittal.
These were certainly difficult, almost impossible months for Jannik to handle. Who, however, put it all in, even managing to triumph in the last Masters 1000 played, the one in Cincinnati. Returning instead to a few days ago, as mentioned a lot of tennis players commented on what happened. And some did so in a negative way. Among them was Denis Shapovalov, who on his own X profile had written “double standards.” Well, a few days later, he recanted.
Sinner’s volte-face, Denis Shapovalov’s explanation
“Honestly, it had nothing to do with Jannik Sinner. For me it’s just a matter of how they handle each situation differently, depending on the player. It’s not fair that some tennis players have been suspended for years for contamination, and others are able to play and are just trying to sweep it under the rug. There are a couple of other athletes who never tested positive and missed a couple of tests and received an 18-month disqualification. “
This is the tennis player’s comment, which certainly doesn’t completely backtrack but explains, at least, that in the crosshairs wasn’t really the Atp number one ranked Italian now expected at the Us Open. Around him now there is a little coldness, a little distrust, highlighted by Italian commentators. Unfortunately, the news has left everyone stunned and no one would have expected a different reaction.
