Tuesday, Jan. 7 predictions: there’s Arsenal-Newcastle in the League Cup, Sporting CP-Porto in the Portuguese League Cup and other matches.
The League Cup, better known as the Carabao Cup for sponsorship reasons, has reached the semifinals, the only round of the competition in which both first leg and return matches are played. In addition to Liverpool and Tottenham, Arsenal and Newcastle are also going in the hunt for a pass to the final at Wembley (scheduled for next March 16).
Last November, Newcastle met Arsenal in one of its worst moments and got the better of it 1-0: the goal of the Bianconeri gunner Isak was decisive. The other most anticipated match this Tuesday is the Portuguese League Cup semifinal between Sporting CP and Porto. Since Amorim’s departure Sporting has taken the hit losing four consecutive games, however it appeared to be on the upswing in the last period beating Benfica in the direct clash before the spectacular 4-4 draw at home to Vitoria Guimaraes. Gyokeres has resumed scoring and so the match with Porto, the main rival for the title win, also promises to be a crackling one.
